The College Board’s College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)?

This rigorous program allows students from a wide range of ages and backgrounds to demonstrate their mastery of introductory college-level material and earn college credit. Students can earn credit for what they already know by getting qualifying scores on any of the 34 examinations.

While CLEP is sponsored by the College Board, only colleges may grant credit toward a degree. Not all colleges have the same CLEP policies—some colleges accept credit for a few exams, while others accept credit for all of them. A college often grants the same amount of credit to a student who earns satisfactory scores on a CLEP exam as it does for a student who successfully completes the related course.

More than 2,900 U.S. colleges and universities grant credit for CLEP. A college’s CLEP credit policy explains:

which CLEP exams are accepted by the institution
what CLEP score you need to receive credit
how many credits are awarded for a particular CLEP exam

The policy may also include other guidelines, such as the maximum number of credits a student can earn through CLEP. Before signing up for a CLEP exam, talk with your academic advisor to figure out how an exam fits in with your education plan.

the same College Board student login used for PSAT/SAT is what is used on the College Board's CLEP website
exams are taken online
exams may be taken remotely
exams may be taken year round
testtakers receive their scores immediately upon finishing the exam - unless the exam includes essays (those scores take up to 3 weeks to post to a student's College Board account)
exams may be retaken after 90 days
D38 is an approved CLEP exam test center if you wish to take CLEP exams in person
